Plurality of Existences – A consoling hope is the theme of Number 13 of the Revue Spirite – The Spiritist Review.
With this issue, Revue Spirite inaugurates a new year of existence and a new thematic sequence. Over the course of four editions, in the sections Spiritism and Science, Spiritism and Philosophy, and Spiritism and Religion, various authors will offer their reflections and analyses on the theme.
In this month that marks the 219th anniversary of the rebirth on Earth of the Spirit known as Allan Kardec, the Revue Spirite Team joins its words with those of the Codifier of Spiritism. He eloquently discusses the plurality of existences: “The doctrine of reincarnation, that is, admitting many successive existences for the Spirit, is the only one that corresponds to the idea we form of God’s Justice towards those in morally inferior conditions. It is the only one that can explain the future and strengthen our hopes because it offers us the means to redeem our mistakes through new trials. Reason indicates it to us, and the Spirits teach it.”
Man, who is conscious of his own inferiority, draws comforting hope from the doctrine of reincarnation. If he believes in God’s Justice, he cannot expect to forever find himself on equal footing with those who have accomplished more than him. However, the idea sustains him and rekindles his courage that this inferiority does not permanently deprive him of the supreme good, and that through new efforts, he will be given the opportunity to conquer it. Who, at the end of their journey, does not lament having gained wisdom so late in life that they can no longer benefit from it? Nevertheless, this belated experience is not lost; the Spirit will make use of it in a new existence.”
